Nana Kwadwo Ofosu-Ayeh, the father of Ghanaian right-back Phil Ofosu-Ayeh, has confirmed that his son was approached by Sweden’s coach with an offer to switch nationalities from Ghana to Sweden. However, he advised his son to be patient and wait for an opportunity to play for Ghana’s senior team, the Black Stars.

The elder Ofosu-Ayeh in an interview on Wamputu Sports, expressed his excitement when his son was ranked as the fastest player in the Swedish league.

“My son confirmed to me that he was approached by the Sweden coach about switching nationality from Ghana to Sweden. I advised that even though he is yet to receive another call up to play for Ghana’s senior team, the Black Stars he should be patient because it is the pride of every parent to see their kid play for their country. So I advised he should be patient before thinking about switching”.

Phil’s explosive start to the season with Halmstad BK has been commendable, and his speed has been recognized as a key asset by the club’s manager, Magnus Haglund.

Reflecting on his son’s career, Nana Kwadwo attributed some of the earlier injuries to indiscipline. However, he emphasized that Phil has successfully recovered and has consistently featured for almost three seasons. Despite pressure from Sweden to switch nationalities, Phil remains loyal to Ghana, his father’s homeland.

In his own words, Phil Ofosu-Ayeh expressed his love for Ghana and his desire to play for the Black Stars. He cherished his time representing the national team in the Canada friendly but admitted feeling hurt whenever injuries ruled him out of Ghana’s AFCON qualifiers.

With his career back on track and enjoying the new campaign, Phil Ofosu-Ayeh’s determination to continue representing Ghana remains unwavering.
