The National Democratic Congress (NDC), has inaugurated three committees for the party’s Presidential Primaries slated for January 29.

The committees are; Vetting Committee, Appeals Committee and Electoral Committee.

The Vetting Committee is being chaired by Nii Okaija Adamafio and supported by Haruna Iddrisu, the Minority Leader of Parliament, James K. Avedzi, the Deputy Minority Leader, Professor Kende Stephen, University of Cape Coast, Professor Kwaku Danso Boafo, the Former Ambassador to United Kingdom Oscar Ameyedowo, the former Ambassador to China and Madam Nancy Amateifio.

The Appeals Committee is headed by Mr Doe Adjaho, the Former Speaker of Parliament, and supported by Mr Cletus Avoka, former Member of Parliament for Zebilla, Mr Dan Abodakpi, the former Ambassador to Malaysia, Mr Yaw Boateng Gyan, former National Organiser and Ms Alice Otuteye.

Mr Kofi Attor, Director of International Relations, is chairing the Electoral Committee and to be assisted by Mr Bede A. Ziedeng, Acting Director of Elections, Mr Koku Anyidoho, the former Deputy General Secretary, Mr Muntaka Mubarak, the Minority Chief Whip, Mr Abraham Amaliba, Member of NDC Legal Team, Dr Catherine Deynu, the former Deputy Women’s Organiser, and Alhaji Haruna Rashid, the Head of Development Challenge.

A representative per region as stated by the guidelines of the elections, mainly, the Directors of Election, will be members of the Electoral Committee to make up to the 17-member committee.

Mr Tei Otukonor, the Deputy General Secretary of NDC, who announced the membership of the committees, said they fixed the election date on January 29, subject to the decision of the Court after the hearing on January 14.

He said as a social democratic party, they were guided by the article 55 of 1992 Constitution and the NDC party as well adding that the NDC believed that the power of making decisions and electing leaders should rest with the people.

”That is why even in the sub region, NDC is the party with the largest Electoral College that you can find in any political party,” he added.

He said over 270,000 people would be voting in the forthcoming Presidential Primaries and “it is something that would not matter to most political parties, but because we want to give power to our people, we decided to expand the Electoral College to that level and even at the national level, it appears we have one of the largest electoral colleges one could find.

Mr Otukonor said the purpose was to create an enabling environment to allow the people to make decisions on behalf of the Party and to ensure free and fair elections.

He said they had already consulted the aspirants and pledged their preparedness to create a level playgrounds for all of them in the forthcoming elections and therefore expressed the hope that the committees would executive their mandates to ensure successful elections.

He later gave the Vetting Committee copies of the NDC Constitution to guide their activities.

Nii Adamafio and Mr Kofi Attor on behalf of their members thanked the Party for the confidence reposed in them and pledged to deliver their mandate accordingly to achieve the common goal of the party.

The election will be held in 276 Constituencies across the country; the NDC Headquarters.
