NDC MPs boycott approval of four deputy minister-designates

The Minority in Parlimanet on Wednesday boycotted the approval of four deputy minister-desigates who were vetted in their absence.

The NDC mebers had gone to partake in the Green Ghana Day at the instruction of the Speaker of the House when their colleagues on the Majority side vetted the four nominees.

The nominess were however approved by the House through a voice vote.

The nominees approved by the House are Martin Adjei Mensah Korsah as Deputy Minister-Designate for Local Government, Decentralisation, Lariba Zuweira Abudu as Deputy Minister-Designate for Gender, Children & Social Protection, Diana Asonaba Dapaah as Deputy Minister-Designate for Office of the Attorney General & Justice and Amidu Issahaku Chinnia as Deputy Minister-Designate for Sanitation & Water Resources.

Before the NDC MPs walked out of the chamber, Deputy Minority Leader, James Klutse Avedzi accused the Chairman of the committee of unfair treatment.

“The Chairman of the [Appointments] Committee has not been fair to the Minority side of the committee. Whilst Right Honourable Speaker directed that we should take part in the tree planting, they organised a meeting for vetting of these people. We from the Minority will not be part of this debate because the chairman has not been fair to us”.

He added: “Our side will not support these four nominees, we will not be part of this, and I want to draw your attention to this, so we will walk out and when you finish, we will come back,” he added.

Majority Leader, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu, blamed the development on the lack of consultations from the Speaker’s office during the tree planting exercise.
