The Majority Leader in Parliament, Mahama Ayariga has announced that the swearing-in of Ewurabena Aubynn as the Member of Parliament for Ablekuma North has given the National Democratic Congress (NDC) a two-thirds majority in Parliament.

According to him, this numerical advantage now enables the NDC to undertake constitutional reforms if it so chooses. He, however, assured that the Majority would not misuse its strengthened position in the House.

“I think the NDC now has two-thirds of the House, Let me repeat that the National Democratic Congress now for the first time in a very long time has two-third of this House. Mr Speaker, with this number we can do many good things for this country. With this number we can carry out significant constitutional reforms to make this country better,” he said.

During the swearing-in of Ewurabena Aubynn as the Member of Parliament for Ablekuma North, Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin also advised the Majority to exercise restraint and not use their superior numbers to suppress their colleagues in the Minority.

He reminded the House that all voices matter in a democratic setting and urged the Majority to allow the Minority to express their views freely.
