In the run-up to the 2016 polls, the then ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) spent more money than New Patriotic Party (NPP) but still lost the election, former Minister of State, Dr. Kwabena Donkor has revealed.
“In the last elections we outspent the NPP if it was a matter of resources”, the NDC lawmaker for Pru Constituency East in the Brong Ahafo Region disclosed.
“NPP could not come anywhere near us”, Dr. Kwabena Donkor disclosed in a town hall meeting with the youth wing of the Tertiary Educational Institutions Network (TEIN) of the University of Education, Winneba, Kumasi Campus
“Money does not win elections”, the astute politician stressed adding “big rallies do not also win elections”.
“In 2008, if you saw NPP’s rallies and all the musicians after them…… unfortunately we failed to learn”, the NDC senior member bemoaned.
“In 2016, we repeated the same mistakes with big rallies and musicians”, Dr. Kwabena Donkor observed.
“You do not do same things and expect different outcomes”, he pointed out
According to the former government official, the NDC neglected its core members and rather switched attention to NPP in terms of development and job opportunities for votes.
“We lost 2016 simply because our branches were weak….we did not pay enough attention to party structures especially the branches”, he noted.
