The Ghana Police Service has restored calm, law and order at Nkwanta and its environs following the deployment of a reinforcement team to support its Regional Command in the Oti Region.

According to a statement by the police, the reinforcement team was supported by the military.

The statement from the Police Service indicates that, the communal- related disturbance resulted in the death and injuries of (5) individuals.

The statement noted that, eight (8) buildings and a shop were also destroyed.

“The five injured victims are currently receiving medical care while the bodies of the five deceased have been deposited at the morgue”.

According to the Statement, Inspector-General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare spoke to the three chiefs in the area over telephone and appealed to them to partner with the security agencies to maintain law and order in the community.

Meanwhile, the Oti Regional Police Commander is in the area to engage with the chiefs, opinion leaders, and community members as part of peace-building activities as investigations into the incident continue.

“We want to assure the public, particularly the people in Nkwanta and its environs, that the Police and the Military will continue to work together to ensure peace and security are maintained in the communities”, the statement added.
