NPP Decides: How do you contest a regional minister? - NPP man questions Kofi Adda

A member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP)’s communication team, Padmore Baffour Agyapong has asserted that the decision by the Minister of Aviation Mr Joseph Kofi Adda to contest in the Navrongo Central constituency primary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) was not a very good decision.

In an interview with Kwame Afrifa Mensah on the ‘Epa Hoa Daben’ show, he explained that unlike the Aviation Minister, his opponent, the Regional Minister Ms Tangoba Abayage had an upper hand in the constituency because she likely had interactions with her constituents.

“I feel sorry for Kofi Adda. This is because you live in Accra and you are contesting the regional minister living in that region. The regional minister lives with the constituents Monday to Sunday. But you live in Accra and your rep is probably doing the engagements.

We have not gotten to the point where delegates understand that they are voting for MPs who will be representing them in Accra and that even if they don’t see you, they understand that you are working for them. We have not come to understand these things yet and I am sure if the regional minister leaves her current position for parliament and there is a new regional minister who contests for the primaries, it could turn out to be the same situation. Unless the delegates understand that the minister has to move to parliament in Accra to serve them”, he said.

He furthered that this case should be a wakeup call for all the newly elected parliamentary aspirants.

“All in all, I believe this is a wakeup call for all the new people coming into the system. As they are coming in, they must remember that they are here to serve and as such, they will not allow any political appointment to disconnect them from the constituents”, he added.

The Upper East Regional Minister, Ms Tangoba Abayage booted out the Minister of Aviation, Mr Joseph Kofi Adda in the Navrongo Central constituency primary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) that took place on 20th June 2020.
