Spokesperson on Transport for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Lawratu Musah-Saaka has outlined four key initiatives the party plans to implement in the transport sector ahead of the December 2024 elections.

At a press briefing in Accra, Lawratu Musah-Saaka, emphasized that one of the main goals is to promote Electric Vehicle (EV) transportation.

She mentioned that government must lead the regulation of this sector, and the NPP is committed to ensuring a comprehensive strategy for the introduction and encouragement of EVs, particularly in public transportation.

Madam Musah-Saaka highlighted that while there are already five vehicle assembling plants in the country, the NPP aims to align Ghana with global trends by making EVs more accessible. This plan includes ensuring the availability of fairly priced spare parts and creating a market for these vehicles.

Additionally, she announced that the NPP will reform the driver licensing system, proposing that the renewal period for driver’s licenses be extended from every two years to every five years, making it more convenient for drivers.

The fourth initiative she discussed is the expansion of the “Gold for Oil” program, which, according to her, will help alleviate pressure on foreign exchange and benefit the economy in multiple ways.
