In a dramatic conclusion to the Obuasi East parliamentary election, the Electoral Commission has announced the final results following a closely monitored recount and re-collation process.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate, Patrick Boakye-Yiadom, has retained his seat in Parliament, securing 18,558 votes. His closest rival, Samuel Aboagye of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), garnered 18,539 votes, while independent candidate Adjei Owusu Afriyie polled 424 votes.

The recount was initiated due to discrepancies identified during the initial collation process, drawing significant attention from political stakeholders, election observers, and residents.

Both NPP and NDC officials were present throughout the exercise, which was conducted under heightened security at the Greater Accra Regional Office of the Electoral Commission.

With the final results declared, Boakye-Yiadom’s victory marks the end of a highly contested race in the Obuasi East constituency.
