A member of the legal team of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Abraham Amaliba has laughed off claims that $8 million was given to John Mahama ahead of the 2016 elections.
Reports went rife on Monday that, former president of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama may be implicated in the yet to be premiered Anas’ expose video after the embattled Ghana FA president Kwesi Nyantakyi scribbled in his statement that Mr Mahama and the NDC were given a sum of $8 million by supposed potential investors ahead of the 2016 general elections.
However, reacting to the report on Happy FM‘s Anopa Bosuo Sports, Mr Amaliba downplayed the claims as he believes it’s a diversionary tactic deployed by the New Patriotic Party.
“Kwesi Nyantakyi is looking for a twin in the NDC. The relationship between Kwesi Nyantakyi and NDC is very bad. It is not true that Kwesi Nyantakyi together or through the investors gave money to the NDC,” says Mr Amaliba on Happy FM.
“I see it as a diversionary tactic by the NPP. We should take this case away from the Police and give it to CHRAJ. Nyantakyi and the NPP are going about looking for equalizer. Nyantakyi wants to share the blame with the NDC. This is friendly fire because we know this matter won’t go anyway, nothing will happen to Nyantakyi.”
“Look at the Koku Anyidoho’s case when he was arrested, he spent two days at the CID headquarters but Kwesi Nyantakyi was released that very day he was invited likewise Hajia Fati and some of the Delta Forces members.”
The new twist to this investigation adds to the controversy that has been triggered by Number 12, Anas’ latest investigation on football and politics.
In the video, the embattled Football president is heard using the names of the president Nana Akufo-Addo and Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia to extort money from persons he thought were potential investors for the Ghanaian economy.
However, the potential investors were unknown to him, undercover journalists with Tiger Eye PI headed by Anas Aremeyaw Anas.
The president who was not happy with excerpts of the video shown to him, reported the incident to the police which led to the arrest of Mr Nyantakyi.
He has since been charged with defrauding by false pretence. A Deputy Roads Minister Anthony Karbo whose name was also mentioned in the video was invited for questioning.
