The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has officially launched an investigation into the alleged embezzlement of GH¢1.3 billion from the National Petroleum Authority (NPA).

At a press conference on Wednesday, February 12, Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng revealed that his office is probing suspected corruption and related offenses linked to the misappropriation of funds from the Unified Petroleum Pricing Fund (UPPF). UPPF is a mechanism designed to stabilize petroleum prices nationwide.

According to Agyebeng, the investigation focuses on four individuals, Jacob Amoah, Coordinator of UPPF, Wendy Ashong Newman, Freda Tandoh and former NPA Chief Executive Officer, Mustapha Abdul-Hamid.

Mustapha Abdul-Hamid, who was appointed CEO of the NPA in 2021 and served until early 2024, oversaw petroleum product regulation, fuel quality standards, and the management of UPPF during his tenure.

The OSP’s investigation aims to uncover any financial irregularities within the fund as authorities work to ensure accountability in the petroleum sector.
