The Ghana Olympic Committee president, Ben Nunoo Mensah says he hoped elections should have been held after the Olympics Games next year in order to ensure maximum concentration will be given to athletes.

Congress voted on Tuesday that Elections should be held early next year in March 2021 before the Olympics Games.
According to Ben Nunoo Mensah, the focus should have been on preparations for the Games instead of holding elections which can disrupt the plans and preparations ahead of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics Games.

“We were supposed to hold Congress earlier this year but due to coronavirus we were unable to. Congress decided Elections should be held before the Olympics Games which in my opinion could shift our focus ahead of the Games”, the GOC president told Odiasempa Kwame Oware on Wamputu Sports on Happy 98.9FM.

He indicated that there will be some challenges with elections coming up in few months to the elections.
“There will be a little challenge I can say. The elections might disrupt our preparations for the Olympic Games because everybody will now focus on vying for our positions with just some few months to the Games”.

“We have to go for our pre Games in Japan and it will worry our preparations. So I thought it might disrupt our plans so we should hold elections after the Games but Congress voted otherwise.

“In my opinion I will want to focus on the preparations of the Olympics Games which should have been our main focus. I think we will lose a bit of focus”, he added.
