Parliament has passed the Social Protection Bill, 2025, establishing a legal framework to enhance the delivery of social services to vulnerable groups across the country.
The new law streamlines key interventions like the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP), the Ghana School Feeding Programme, the Basic Education Capitation Grants, and exemptions under the National Health Insurance Scheme.
The bill also creates the Social Protection Fund to provide timely financial support during emergencies and to boost funding for ongoing social protection efforts.
Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, says the bill marks a major step in ensuring equity and access for the country’s most underprivileged.
