Following his delayed speech on Thursday, November 9, the Minister of National Security, Kan Dapaah, was met with harsh criticism from lawmakers representing the impacted seats of Garu and Tempane during a rough session at Parliament.

The MPs expressed their dissatisfaction with the minister’s response to the escalating issue of military brutality in the Garu region.

According to Minister Kan Dapaah, the ongoing brutalities stemmed from an alleged attack on security personnel who were on duty investigating a crime in the constituency. However, he stated that the case is currently under court review for prosecution, restricting him from making any further comments.

The parliamentary representatives, notably Alalzuuga Albert Akuka, the Member of Parliament for Garu, voiced their disappointment, highlighting that the minister failed to condemn the abuse of human rights, seemingly rationalizing the military misconducts in the area.

MP Lydia Akanvira Lamisi of Tempane Constituency went a step further, calling for a full-scale inquiry into the matter. The legislators collectively demanded compensation for the victims affected by the military actions, emphasizing the urgency of addressing the issue.

In response to the growing discontent, Parliament urged Minister Kan Dapaah to revisit the house and provide a more comprehensive address to the concerns raised by the affected constituencies, underscoring the gravity of the situation and the need for immediate action.
