In a dazzling display of Ghanaian heritage and spirituality, the Priscilla Congregation of the Dansoman District Presbyterian Chruch of Ghana gathered in a jubilant assembly for the 2023 edition of their biennial Kente Day Celebration.

Under the theme “Our Culture, Our Heritage,” the event was a resounding success, blending captivating performances, enriching talks and unity.

The celebration commenced with awe-inspiring performances, with the Priscilla Melody (Praises and Worship team) enchanting the audience with their heavenly tunes. Adding to the cultural tapestry, Sitsope Gabienu from the Children’s Service delivered captivating poetry that left everyone in awe.

The heart of the event pulsated with a deep exploration of both the Voltarian and Ga Adangbe cultures, highlighting the rich tapestry of Ghana’s heritage. Honourable Mrs. Diana Twum passionately intertwined Christian values with indigenous Ghanaian culture, fostering a sense of unity and respect for both.

The highlight of the celebration was a resounding sermon by Reverend S.T Quaye, who emphasized the importance of preserving unique cultures, drawing parallels between Ghanaian culture and Christianity, and fostering unity among all. His words resonated deeply with the attendees, igniting a renewed sense of cultural pride.

Throughout the ceremony, powerful ministrations, including a special feature from the Women’s Fellowship, stirred the souls of the congregation.

Senior Presbyter Sophia Abuah Kyei graced the event with an insight into the history and essence of the Kente Day Celebration. She recounted how it was initially introduced to support the growth of the church and its ministerial activities while honouring Ghana’s diverse indigenous cultures through fellowship.

The gathering climaxed with an epic Jama delivery from the District Jama Group as the sun began to set, filling the air with unbounded energy and excitement.

“This year’s Kente Day Celebration was a harmonious blend of culture and spirituality, a testament to the unity within our congregation and the richness of Ghana’s heritage. Together, we’ve created an event that not only honours our traditions but also strengthens our spiritual bonds,” Cat. George Odame, Catchiest in Charge remarked.

“Through the dedication of our committee and the unwavering support of our congregation, we’ve showcased the beauty of our culture and the power of faith in bringing people together. May this celebration serve as a reminder that our diversity is our strength, and when we come together in unity, we can achieve extraordinary things,” Mrs. Judith Hinne Kloe, Committee Chairperson added.

Notably, the Kente Day ceremony transcended political boundaries, bringing together District Executive Members from both the ruling NPP and the opposition NDC. The event served as a unifying platform, reaffirming the essence of unity and cooperation.

Honourable Rev. Kweku Addo, Parliamentary Candidate-elect of the NDC and Director of the Oddarene School of Excellence, Dansoman, delivered a stirring speech, highlighting the interconnectedness of Christianity and politics.

Notable figures such as Nii Adotey Kanfla II, Gbegbeyise Mantse, Nii Laryae, Korle-Bu Akwashong I, Asafoanye Naa Adukwei Pensa, Sietse Osura III, Osu, bestowed the event with their honour. Some District Executives of the Presbyterian Church and former Presbyters of the Priscilla Congregation also represented.

In a world often divided, the 2023 Kente Day Celebration at Priscilla Congregation served as a shining example of how culture, faith and unity can harmoniously coexist, strengthening community bond and preserving Ghana’s rich heritage for generations to come.
