The decision by some residents of Agona Swedru to block some roads in the town for their bad nature has left a police officer injured amidst the firing of warning shots.

The police officer who is yet to be identified was reportedly hit on the head by an object believed to have come from stone-throwing demonstrators.

The roadblock, which has left many travellers stranded in their cars for hours, according to some commuters appears to have escalated, especially with the arrival of the police.

Not even the attempt by police officers to negotiate with the youth will make them back down on their decision to continue to block the road, forcing law enforcement officers to fire warning shots.

A worried road user, Humphery Datsomor, who reported the incident in an intervie said there was confusion as the angry residents prevent cars from moving, adding that the about 15-20 policemen had been overwhelmed by the sheer number of the demonstrating youth.

“For over three hours, they have blocked the roads and have refused to open it till they see the regional minister. A lot of travellers have gotten off the vehicles in which they were commuting and have resorted to walking long distances to their destinations,” he narrated.

He added that the protesting residents, holding placards with the “no road, no vote” inscription, say they are determined to continue with the demonstration until the roads are fixed.
