Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu has called on Africans to prioritize peaceful dialogue and avoid conflicts as a means of resolving disagreements.

His remarks underscored the importance of unity and cooperation in fostering progress across the continent.

Speaking as the special guest of honour at the inauguration of President John Dramani Mahama in Ghana on January 7, 2025, Tinubu emphasized the need for Africans to reject violence and focus on peaceful resolutions during moments of disagreement. He highlighted the symbolic significance of the Black Star, urging the people of Africa to stay united, protect their shared identity, and avoid actions that could harm their brotherhood.

“That star [Black Star] reminds us always to strive and walk together, bound together. Even when we disagree, we must choose the path of peaceful dialogue. Never can we harm our brothers, nor can we permit any outsider to destroy our bonds of brotherhood.” he said.

Drawing attention to the challenges the continent faces, Tinubu encouraged Africans to resist efforts to sow division and instead work towards collective growth and harmony. He stressed that Africa’s strength lies in its ability to remain bound together despite differences.

As the Chairman of ECOWAS, Tinubu assured President Mahama of his full support as he begins his second term in office, reaffirming the importance of regional cooperation and mutual assistance for the development of West Africa and the entire continent.
