Prez Akufo-Addo’s Nima residence, N1-Awoshie, Highstreet-Ministries road among 30+ damaged traffic lights in Accra

Ghana’s leading radio station, Happy 98.9 FM has gathered that over thirty (30) traffic lights are damaged in Accra.

The Department of Urban Roads, entrusted with the maintenance and repair of road infrastructure has been criticised for its failure to address some malfunctioning traffic lights within the city of Accra.

Earlier last month on Happy 98.9 FM’s “Epa Hoa Daben” socio-political talk show, concerns were raised over the Department of Urban Road’sfailure to repair the broken traffic light on the Kanda Highway located after the overpass stretching to Ridge.

However, the issue of damaged traffic lights seems to have been causing mayhem across various significant locations in the city. This rising phenomenon ignited listeners of the show to phone in and list the various locations in the city with damaged traffic lights.

Listeners identified the Nima traffic light located at the intersection point between Prez Akufo-Addo’s residence and the Nima Police station, North-Ridge traffic light, Accra Regional Hospital traffic light, Kaneshie-Abbossey Okai Zongo Junction traffic light, Highstreet – Beach Road traffic light and N1-Awoshie junction traffic light as some of the over 30 faulty traffic lights in the nation’s capital

“It’s shocking that some of our big men are using these roads, and it’s awful that nothing has been done to address the issue. Since no one has spoken up, we’ve decided to spread the news on our own until the relevant parties get involved. We won’t sit down and wait until we lose lives or something terrible happens before we take action,” Sefah Danquah, host of Epa Hoa Daben lamented.

Listeners indicated that the abandoned traffic lights have led to unprecedented havoc at several intersections, leaving commuters and pedestrians at the mercy of unregulated traffic flow.

With the chaos persisting the public’s patience wears thin and their faith in the responsible authorities continues to erode.
