Executive Director of the Institute for Liberty and Policy Innovation (ILAPI), Peter Bismark Kwofie has opined that the Minister for National Security-designate, Albert Kan Dapaah and the Minister for Communication-designate, Urusla Owusu should have been replaced as ministers in President Akufo-Addo’s second term.
According to him, under their leadership in the President’s first term, there were some unfavourable situations that had many Ghanaians disappointed in their ministries.
In an interview with Sefa Danquah on the ‘Epa Hoa Daben’ show, he said of the works of the previous Communication Ministry under Ursula Owusu: “There have been a lot of issues around digitization in the country and we expected the interoperability to come and reduce Mobile Money (MoMo) charges but now, it is very high and if we don’t take care we will be resorting to the bank. Now the MoMo businesses might be on the verge of destruction. The whole thing at the National Communication Authority and the closing of radio stations and all that were also issues”.
“She [Ursula Owusu] shouldn’t have been kept at the Ministry of Communication”, he added.
Commenting on the previous National Security Ministry, Peter noted that there have been a lot of shortcomings in our security system under Kan Dapaah’s leadership.
“When we look at our National Security architecture and what has happened over the last four years, we should have changed Kan Dapaah. We have not been able to pick intelligence and there was the issue of Ahmed Suale’s murder. We just say something to the public when something happens and we go back to sit. We should have taken Kan Dapaah out because, if all Ghanaians had to measure him, I am sure he will not have gotten the proper outcome”, he added.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has submitted to Parliament for approval, a list of names for ministerial appointments.
In a communique from the Office of the President, it has been indicated that the President’s appointments will not exceed eighty-five ministers. The list presented to Parliament includes the names of forty-six (46) persons for the ministerial roles for the next four years.
Albert Kan Dapaah who served as National Security Minister under the President’s first term has been nominated to serve as the National Security Minister in the President’s second term.
Minister for Communication during the President first term, Ursula Owusu, has also been nominated to continue in the same office for a second term.
