President Mahama brings “Thank You” Visit to Greater Accra

President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama

Former President John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has criticized the leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for focusing on political campaigns and making hollow promises instead of addressing the country’s economic challenges and working towards meaningful economic recovery. He accused the NPP of prioritizing votes over the nation’s economic well-being.

Mahama lambasted the ruling party’s claims, particularly those made by their running mate, Matthew Opoku Prempeh, who asserted that President Akufo-Addo’s accomplishments surpass those of the legendary Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.

Mahama, addressing a gathering of Chiefs and Elders of La-Bawuleshie and Mempeasem in the Ayawaso West Constituency, implored the NPP government to shift its focus from rhetoric to tangible economic progress.

He lamented that the ruling party’s leadership is oblivious to the severity of the economic crisis, exemplified by their boasts of being the best government in Ghana’s history, even surpassing Nkrumah’s achievements. Mahama emphasized that this disconnect from reality hinders their ability to address the pressing economic issues facing the nation.

He said the NPP government is promising to rationalize taxes, but with only five months left before the election, it’s a hollow promise. They have ample time to start implementing these changes now, but instead, they’re asking Ghanaians to vote for them first, and then they’ll act. It’s a tactic they used in 2016, but it won’t work again.
