Coronavirus Outbreak: Together we win - Chinese Amb to Ghana

China’s Ambassador to Ghana, H.E Shi Ting Wang has described statements by some world leaders referring to the coronavirus outbreak as the ‘Chinese virus’ as discriminatory and politically motivated.

Speaking on the theme, COVID-19: Wuhan 76 Days after lockdown on Happy98.9FM’s Happy Morning Show, H.E Shi Ting Wang when asked how he felt about the COVID-19 being refered to the Chinese virus, he said, “The statement is a political motivated one and it won’t help anyone. We are highly against the virus being called a Chinese virus. The origin of the virus has not even been determined yet so why would some political figures label COVID-19, the Chinese virus?”

According to him, even the World Health Organization (WHO) has a policy which prevents a virus from being named after a place it broke out and it is rather unfortunate some political leaders have refused to regard the directive and try to set a negative agenda.

“The virus is a matter of science and is subject to a scientific approach. The World Health Organization is yet to confirm the origin of the virus and we can’t just make statement like this which only proves malicious intent. We should wait for proof from the scientific approach and stop calling the COVID-19 the Chinese virus,” he reiterated.

Some factions of the global populace and some world leaders, including President Donald Trump of America on some occasions have referred to the coronavirus which broke in Wuhan, China and has since then spread to other parts of the world as the Chinese virus.
