Don Kwabena Prah, host of Happy98.9 FM’s Epa Hoa Daben socio-political show, has advised journalists, particularly bloggers to always give accurate reportage from interviews.
He believes news wields lots of power and can make or destroy a whole country.
He indicated that reporting stories out of contest usually does no good to the bearer of the interview. “To ensure integrity and accuracy, writers should always cross-check the facts and report on the right content,” he stated.
This comes at the back of a recent complaint from Dr. Kingsley Nyarko, Member of Parliament for the Kwadaso Constituency. He claimed to have been misquoted in a previous interview during the New Partiotic Party’s (NPP) national delegate conference in Kumasi.
The Kwadaso MP stated that, the recent report on social media websites that suggested the various MPs who followed the Vice President of Ghana, Dr. Bawumia to the conference were not entirely in support of his position to contest as Flagbearer for the next general election. He urged such news to be ignored as he deemed it false. “I’ve gone back to listen to the interview and I didn’t hear myself say such a thing. These reports are not true. I only opined without mentioning names that, when people are behind someone that does not guarantee victory in an election,” he stated.
Giving his reaction on the incident, the social development advocate, Don Kwabena Prah attested to the fact since he conducted the interview. He said, “I want to give my sincere apologies to you and state on record that, what the news suggested are just misquotations on our interview. I want use this platform to also appeal to bloggers and newsmakers that there’s nothing wrong with picking from a source. There is absolutely nothing wrong with picking a story from an interview. However, we should try to pick the news in the right or proper context, so that the bearer of the news would not be troubled. I want to urge all the writers and bloggers out there not to twist angles from the content and conjure stories from interviews conducted, to prevent further dire consequences.”
Don Prah was also lauded for his efforts and massive inputs by Dr. Nyarko since joining Happy98.9 FM. The Kwadaso MP believes the Epa Hoa Daben socio-political show has influenced several social changes and other political actors since its inception.
