The former Minister for Gender, Children, and Social Protection, Sarah Adwoa Sarfo, has opened up about her extended absence from her ministerial role.

According to her, the decision to remain in office during that period was based on advice from a senior member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), who assured her that the appointing authorities and key stakeholders were aware of her circumstances.

She, however, dismissed claims of negligence, highlighting that Cecilia Dapaah served as caretaker minister in her absence.

Adwoa Safo also clarified that she did not receive any salary or allowances during this time, as her responsibilities were being managed by the caretaker minister.

Her appointment was eventually revoked by former President Nana Akufo-Addo in July 2022, following nearly a year of absence.

The situation also sparked debate about whether her parliamentary seat should be declared vacant.

Adwoa Safo expressed frustration over what she described as fabricated stories about her absence, questioning the motives behind them.
