Seven residents of Gulumpe in the Kintampo North Municipality have been arrested for the unlawful possession and concealment of weapons, despite a curfew imposed on the community following recent communal clashes.
The suspects were picked up during a special security operation carried out by a joint police military taskforce on Thursday night. The operation, which was based on intelligence, targeted individuals believed to be hiding firearms and ammunition within the community.
The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Kintampo North, Isaac Donkor, who led the security team, confirmed the arrests. He stated that the raid was part of intensified efforts to restore calm and prevent further escalation of violence in the area.
Mr. Donkor disclosed that the operation will continue as authorities follow up on additional intelligence to clamp down on illegal weapons circulating in the community.
He assured residents that the security agencies will maintain a strong presence in Gulumpe to safeguard lives and ensure full compliance with the curfew.
