The St. Mary’s Old Girls, 2000 Year Group, has kicked off celebrations for their upcoming 25th anniversary with the launch of a significant legacy project.

In line with the school’s tradition, the year group has committed to creating initiatives that will positively impact the social and academic lives of current and future students.

Their chosen legacy project will be the establishment of an ultra modern food and fashion classroom aimed at enhancing the learning experience and skills development for students.

They believe that the event marks a key milestone in the group’s journey, offering an opportunity to unveil their legacy project and foster connections among members.

Speaking at the launch, Mrs. Mabel Boateng Mensah, President of SMOGA 2000, reflected on their journey since graduation. “Twenty-five years ago, when we walked out of St. Mary’s blue gates, many of us were eager to step into adulthood, excited about the future. We were filled with dreams and aspirations as we embraced the Y2K era, uncertainties, and readiness for our unique paths.”

Mrs. Mensah highlighted the growth, learning, and transformation they’ve experienced since then. She noted that what began as a simple idea has evolved into something remarkable.

“At first, the project seemed scary and like something distant and difficult to achieve. But despite the challenges and setbacks, our passion and commitment have driven us forward. Through this legacy project, we aim to build connections, foster teamwork, drive change, and bring together a community united by a shared purpose”.

“As we approach our 25th anniversary in February 2025, we are not only commemorating the passage of time but also celebrating the collaborative achievement of everyone involved in this journey. I am deeply grateful to each one of you.”

The event’s keynote speaker, Ms. Naa Adzorkor Adzei, Esq., emphasized the importance of giving back to the school, describing it as a call for all virtuous women.

She remarked, “The foundation was well established and had no cracks in it for us to build on. How well we have built our lives our homes, families, careers, education, spirituality, and our commitment to giving back to our school reflects our dedication to the theme, ‘25 Years of Perfecting Truth and Virtue: The Turning Point.’”

Ms. Adzei challenged the group to consider their next turning point, encouraging them to fully commit to making both the anniversary and the legacy project a reality.

“I appeal to us all here today to go all out and seek the resources we require to make this 25th anniversary and most importantly our legacy project a reality” she concluded.
