Assin Central Member of Parliament (MP), Kennedy Agyapong has urged persons who have fallen victim to the negligence of nurses to drag such health workers to court to serve as a deterrent to others.
According to him, it is the responsibility of medical doctors and nurses to use their highest standards of their professional skills for the treatment of patients who call at their facilities with medical problems.
The situation, he noted has been worse as nurses in the country have turned most hospitals into a playing ground.
Speaking on Adom TV’s Morning Show “Badwam” Tuesday, the maverick politician narrated how his friend was told in the face by a nurse that the doctor was sick and that nothing could be done to help his dying son.
He also narrated a sad story of how his friend lost his relative because of the negligence of some nurses.
“Every sick patient has no dignity in this country. Nurses are people I feel reluctant to help because they have failed to take care of patients and left them to their fate. I urge persons to sue any nurse who exhibit negligence and causes death of patients” he said.
Kennedy Agyapong noted that, he received calls from people who say they suffered similar treatment from nurses in the some hospitals – a situation he described as very worrying.
“Nurses need to up their game because their behavior is just bad and something needs to be done about the situation because they are killing innocent people” he cried.
Kennedy Agyapong urged President Akufo-Addo and the NPP to put in stringent measures to deal with the loopholes in the country without fear or favor.
He advised that the President channel his attention to the health sector when the issues of Free SHS and education are dealt with.
“We need to revolutionize the system by changing the system by force and making Ghanaians realise the need for a change. President Akufo-Addo must focus his attention on health next after addressing the issues with the education sector” he said.
