The Supreme Court has ordered the Electoral Commission (EC) to suspend all actions toward the conduct of a proposed parliamentary rerun in the Kpandai constituency, pending the final determination of a case before the court.
The directive effectively freezes all preparations by the EC, barring it from taking any further steps to organise or conduct the rerun until the legal issues surrounding the matter are conclusively resolved.
When the case was called on Tuesday, December 16, the apex court adjourned proceedings to January 13, 2026, to allow for further consideration of submissions from the parties involved.
The planned rerun has been at the centre of legal disputes stemming from the parliamentary election in the constituency, leading to the Supreme Court’s intervention.
The court’s decision is expected to impact the electoral timetable in Kpandai, as political actors and residents await a final ruling early next year.
