Teachers in the country are expected to pay rent for occupying school bungalows.

This is according to a letter from the Ghana Education Service and copied to all Metropolitan, Municipal and District Directors of Education.

Director of Education in the Western Region, Felicia Agyeibea Okai referenced a 2006 Ministry of Finance circular which talked about the introduction of such a policy.
The letter called on the teachers to brace themselves for a 10 per cent deduction from their salaries for occupying the said government bungalows.

“I, therefore, write to inform you that with effect from 1st March 2022 all Teachers/Staff occupying School/Government bungalow are to pay 10% of their basic salary. You are also to ensure all arrears owed are collected to avoid audit issues,” the letter added.
