Majority leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin has announced plans to trigger a recall of Parliament today, Wednesday October 23, due to concerns over Speaker Alban Bagbin’s decision to indefinitely adjourn the House.

Afenyo-Markin expressed these concerns to the media on Tuesday, October 22, suggesting that the Speaker’s move is part of a broader strategy by National Democratic Congress (NDC) MPs to obstruct parliamentary business and potentially derail Ghana’s economy.

“During the recall we had a signal that they (Minority) were not ready to do any government business and that’s exactly what they are doing, they don’t want Parliament to function. You know what, God willing tomorrow the majority caucus will trigger a recall of Parliament”, he said.

The Majority Leader believes that the NDC is trying to hinder government business, but the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is determined to counter these efforts and ensure that government business continues uninterrupted.

This move comes after a disagreement over which caucus should occupy the Majority side of the House, leading to Speaker Bagbin’s announcement of an indefinite adjournment.
