Hematologist at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, Dr. Eugene Tettey, has said that more needs to be done in creating breast cancer awareness.

He noted that so far, he is impressed with the work put into the awareness creation throughout the country. But more needs to be done to reach people in the hinterlands.

He shared these thoughts during an interview with Sefa-Danquah on the Happy Morning Show.

“We have done well as a country in the breast cancer awareness and education. I am very impressed at the way people have created awareness within this month. In the past, many were silent on breast cancer in the month of October. So, we have come far but there is still a lot of work to do especially in the hinterlands.”

Dr. Eugene Tettey thus called on corporate Ghana to support the breast cancer awareness in these areas.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which is marked in countries across the world, and helps to increase attention and support for awareness, early diagnosis, and treatment as well as palliative care for women facing this disease.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), breast cancer is the second most common cancer in the world and the most common cancer in women worldwide, accounting for 25% of all incident cases of female cancers.
