John Dramani Mahama, flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), believes that if the “current levels of bribery and corruption” had occurred under the NDC, a coup would have taken place in Ghana by now.

He criticized those responsible for holding the government accountable, accusing them of hypocrisy and opting to praise the government rather than speaking out against its wrongdoings.

“I must be honest with you; if the bribery and corruption happening under this government happened under the NDC, we would have had a coup in Ghana. The level of thievery going on is worse, but people, a lot of people are hypocrites; they do not see the wrong going on in Ghana,” he told a charged crowd in Accra.

John Dramani Mahama expressed confidence that the NDC would secure victory in the 2024 elections. He also assured that those currently silent about the government’s wrongdoings will suddenly regain their voices when the NDC returns to power.

“I know NDC will win the 2024 elections. However, when we win, people who have toothaches and cannot speak against the ills of the current government will start to get their voices back. Hypocrisy is what is pulling this nation back. If we see the truth, if it is black, it is black, if it is white it is white, it doesn’t matter who is in office. We must be truthful at all times,” he said.
