Today In Sports History:  Joshua Clottey beat Marciano Commey to win first title as a professional boxer

On this day 31 March 1995(Exactly 25 years ago today) Future world championJoshua Clottey made his profession debut against Samuel Lotsu winninig on points in Accra.

On this day 31 March 1973 (Exactly 47 years ago today) Ken Norton defeated Muhammad Ali in a 12 round split decision at the Sports Arena, San Diego, California, U.S.

Ali was a 5 to 1 favorite and was the number one ranked heavyweight contender and Norton was ranked number six.

Ali suffered a broken jaw in the bout. There were no knockdowns.

Ali entered the ring wearing a white robe encrusted with rhinestones and jewels. “People’s Choice” was written on the back. It was a gift from Elvis Presley. After losing to Norton, Ali never wore it again.
