The Ministry of Transport has announced the deployment of buses on four major routes in Accra as part of an emergency intervention to reduce the city’s growing peak-hour transportation challenges.
Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, Minister for Transport, Joseph Bukari Nikpe, confirmed that the initiative is aimed at enhancing commuter safety and improving travel convenience during the late-afternoon rush.
According to the Ministry, a minimum of eight buses have been assigned to each corridor, operating between 4:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. The routes include:
Accra–Madina–Adenta
Accra–Achimota–Amasaman
Accra–Mallam–Kasoa
Accra–Tema Beach Road
Nikpe described the deployment as an interim measure to address pressing transportation difficulties confronting thousands of commuters daily. He said the government is committed to ensuring that passengers get home safely and on time as broader, long-term solutions are being pursued.
The Ministry says it will continue to monitor the situation and adjust the number of buses based on demand in the coming days.
