The Turkish Ambassador to Ghana, H.E. Hüseyin Güngör, has commended Ghanaian journalists for their professionalism, resilience, and vital role in sustaining democracy and promoting positive change in society.
Speaking at the launch of the 29th Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) Media Awards held at the Alisa Hotel in Accra, Ambassador Güngör highlighted the immense contribution of journalists to public discourse and social development. He praised their dedication to the truth, especially in the face of growing challenges in the digital media landscape.
“Journalists are the backbone of every democratic society. Your work shapes national conversations, informs citizens, and promotes accountability,” he stated, urging media professionals to uphold the highest standards of integrity and objectivity.
Addressing the evolving challenges of the digital age, the Ambassador noted the threat posed by misinformation, disinformation, and the rise of deepfakes. He emphasized the critical need for credible journalism to counter the spread of false narratives, adding that trust and accuracy are more important than ever.
Ambassador Güngör applauded their exemplary conduct during election periods, citing their balanced coverage and commitment to facts as a model for others across the continent.
As a gesture of appreciation, he revealed that he had invited several Ghanaian journalists to his residence, thanking them personally for their hard work and contribution to the nation’s development.
