The Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA) has warned it will embark on a nationwide strike if the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) fails to comply with directives issued by the National Labour Commission (NLC).
The Association said the NLC, on Monday, June 9, ordered GTEC to reinstate members whose allowances were either withdrawn or slashed last month, address concerns over distortions in the Single Spine Salary Structure, and reverse a directive affecting office-holding positions within universities.
The association in a statement expressed frustration over the lack of progress in implementing these directives and has given the government until the end of June to resolve the issues or risk another strike.
In a related development, the Tertiary Education Workers Union of Ghana (TEWU-GH) has issued a seven-day ultimatum to GTEC, demanding the immediate reversal of a directive requiring traditional public universities to swear in TEWU-TUC representatives onto their Governing Councils.
