The United States Ambassador to Ghana, Stephanie Sullivan, on Friday paid a courtesy call on the Overlord of Dagbon Kingdom, Ya-Na Mahama Abukari (II) at the Gbewaa Palace at Yendi to congratulate him on his ascension to the skin.

Ambassador Sullivan said she was happy about the prevailing peace in the area and urged all to work to sustain it to facilitate development because “without peace, there cannot be development.”

She spoke about the focus areas of the United States Government and Ghana relations, which included trade and investment to encourage enterprise-driven development in the country, regional security to promote peace, and governance to ensure institution building to better deliver to the people.

Ya-Na Abukari (II) spoke about the interventions of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) in the region and expressed gratitude to the United States Government for its continued efforts at ensuring peace and development in the area.

He then conferred the title of Peace Queen on Ambassador Sullivan; and she was dressed in a traditional attire to match her role.

Ambassador Sullivan later paid a courtesy call on the chief of Mion (Mion Lana) Mahamadu Abdulai at his palace at Mion to congratulate him on his enskinment.

There is the need for continued peace in the area to foster development, she said.

Ambassador Sullivan also visited a Community-Based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) Compound at Warivi in the Mion District of the Northern Region to learn about how it was impacting the lives of members of the community.

The Warivi CHPS Compound, which was inaugurated about a year ago, was constructed through the support of USAID under the USAID System for Health project to help improve health care delivery in the country.

Ambassador Sullivan urged all especially husbands to support their wives to help improve maternal and newborn care in the area.

Members of the Warivi community led by the District Chief Executive for Mion, Hashim Abdallah, expressed gratitude to the United States Government for providing them with the facility saying they would support health staff in the area to ensure smooth operations at the facility.
