Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has called on the Ministry of Education, the Ghana Education Service (GES), and all agencies involved in the Senior High School (SHS) placement process to treat parents with patience and respect, despite mounting pressures.
Speaking during a courtesy visit to the Ministry on Wednesday, September 24, she acknowledged the strain on officials but emphasized the need for empathy. “I know you are doing your school placement. And you have all kinds of people besieging, if not your offices, your homes, your phones… Let’s just try very politely to explain the situation,” she urged.
Her remarks follow the GES’s establishment of resolution centres nationwide to address placement concerns.
Professor Opoku-Agyemang also addressed student discipline, advocating for dialogue over force. “It’s not about yelling or a loud voice… We need to help them understand,” she said, adding that both students and teachers need support to foster a peaceful learning environment.
Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu praised the Vice President’s leadership, expressing hope for her future. “It is my prayer that God will give you long life and good health, and probably you will be elevated to become the first female president of Ghana,” he said.
