Ghanaian forward Daniel Afriyie Barnieh was the star of the show on Friday night, scoring twice as FC Aarau cruised past FC Stade Lausanne-Ouchy at the Stadion Brugglifeld in the Swiss second tier.
The 24-year-old, who only joined Aarau this summer on a two-year deal after leaving FC Zurich, got his side off the mark in the 22nd minute. A cross into the box was met by fellow Ghanaian David Acquah, whose header forced goalkeeper Da Silva into a save. Barnieh reacted quickest, poking home the rebound to break the deadlock.
He doubled his tally in style midway through the second half. After a loose ball fell his way, Barnieh surged forward and produced a cheeky outside-of-the-boot finish that left the keeper with no chance.
Valon Fazliu added a late third in stoppage time to wrap up a convincing 3-0 win for the league leaders.
Barnieh’s brace takes his tally to four goals this season, underlining his growing influence in Aarau’s attack. The win also stretched their winning streak to five matches, keeping them top of the table with 15 points – four clear of nearest challengers FC Vaduz.
Next up, Barnieh and his teammates hit the road for an away clash against Rapperswil.
