Yusif Basigi, head coach of Ghana’s Black Princesses, says he had it tough selecting his squad for the just-ended WAFU B U-20 tournament because there were lots of talented players available.
The Black Princesses emerged winners of the maiden edition of the WAFU B Girls’ U-20 Cup, after beating Nigeria 3-1 on penalties in the final of the competition on Saturday at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
The final game which was hosted in Kumasi, had to be decided via penalties after the game ended 1-1 in regular time.
Goalkeeper Afi Amenyaku was the hero on the night as she saved three spot kicks from the Nigerians to help Yussif Basigi’s side achieve their target of hosting and winning the competition.
Speaking in an interview on Happy FM about his team’s victory, coach Basigi said, “We have some players who even couldn’t join the team because they had passport issues. The Princesses squad is full of talents and the team is choked with talents”. Now the team is going to rest and focus on the upcoming tournament”.
Ghana’s Stella Nyamekye was named Best player of the Tournament, while Afi Amenyaku was adjudged best Goalkeeper.
