A matron at the Sickle Cell Unit of the Korle Bu – Teaching Hospital, Joycelyn Dunyo, has confirmed that majority of the nurses leaving the country to embrace work opportunities outside Ghana are experienced which leaves more of the freshly recruited in Ghana.

Speaking to e.TV Ghana’s Kobina Baidoo, she noted that the challenges nurses especially those in the government sector face have not been favorable, adding that it has now become unbearable for most of the nurses who have endured over the years.

“I have been in this profession for close to 30 years now and in my years, the condition has never been favorable enough; there were times we could just endure but when the economy begins to fail, it disturbs us immensely.” she indicated.

She believes that these experienced nurses are only moving for better working environments, salaries and overall better living conditions.

“The government must do something about this; as soon as the opportunity comes our way we would take it; because everyone is in search of greener pastures; when there are favorable conditions, we are highly motivated.”
