WAEC to release 2025 BECE private candidate results today The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced that results for the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for private candidates will be released by the end of today, Friday, September 5. Speaking at a media briefing, WAEC’s Public Relations Officer, John Kapi, confirmed the release timeline and shared key statistics. “A total of 1,661 private candidates, 858 males and 803 females, registered for this year’s BECE. This marks a 19.49% increase compared to last year,” he stated. According to John Kapi, the provisional results for school candidates were released earlier on August 23, with 603,328 students participating from 20,395 schools. WAEC noted a 5.99% rise in school candidate numbers. Kapi also addressed examination integrity, saying, “Candidates who infringed on the rules governing the conduct of the examination were appropriately sanctioned following investigations and the advice of the Council’s relevant committee.”

The Minority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has reaffirmed his side’s opposition to the nomination of Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa as Minister-designate for Foreign Affairs.

He revealed this during the approval process of the plenary session on Tuesday night, February 4, 2025.

He explained that their objection is due to the North Tongu MP’s failure to provide the necessary documents requested by the Committee regarding his earnings and assets.

“Mr Speaker the nominee has submitted only two out of nine documents requested by the Committee. We believe that he who comes to equity must come with equity. He is on record as pursuing public servants and people in the political class and questioning their sources of income. If you are holding people’s feet to the fire, demanding transparency and accountability, it means that you yourself, when subjected to it, you will oblige,” he said.

Afenyo-Markin added that, “he has been questioning people’s travel, people’s birth certificates. I will not pursue him and frustrate his political progress. As a matter of principle, we are opposed to him for the inconsistency. We the Minority have decided to wash our hands off his approval. Every sin at the Airport Hills, we are not part of the sins that he has committed. All the Airport Hills sins are on you. Carry your own cross. If he repents, we will welcome him”.
