President John Dramani Mahama has warned perpetrators of romance scams to desist from it, declaring that Ghana will extradite and prosecute anyone found guilty regardless of nationality.

Speaking at the launch of Cyber Security Awareness Month in Accra on Wednesday, October 1, Mahama emphasized Ghana’s commitment to international cooperation in fighting online fraud.

“We’ve been collaborating with our international partners. When evidence is gathered and it is proven that people are involved in romance scams, using our extradition treaties, we ship the culprits back” President Mahama disclosed.

He stressed that both Ghanaian citizens and foreign nationals will be held accountable.

“Anybody involved in romance scams, whether you are a foreigner or a Ghanaian citizen, we will hand you over to be tried and punished accordingly”, the president sternly warned promising the his government and other institutions will leave no stone unturned fishing such miscreants out for them to be dealt with by law.

President Mahama indicated that, the move is essential to protect victims and safeguard Ghana’s global reputation.
