The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has reported to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) at the Police Headquarters for questioning.
His presence at the CID follows a failed arrest attempt by a combined team of National Security operatives and police officers at his residence on May 23.
Wontumi was accompanied by former Attorney General Godfred Yeboah Dame and former Asante-Akim North MP Andy Appiah-Kubi.
While authorities have yet to comment on the specifics of the interrogation, sources suggest that the inquiry is tied to ongoing investigations about his involvement in illegal mining.
The attempted arrest, which saw heavily armed personnel surrounding Wontumi’s residence, sparked public debate, with supporters claiming the move was politically motivated intimidation.
Wontumi’s legal team is expected to address the media following his engagement with CID officials, potentially shedding light on the nature of the probe.
