Moroccan giants Wydad AC claimed a crucial 1–0 away victory over Asante Kotoko at the Accra Sports Stadium in the first leg of their CAF Confederation Cup Preliminary Round 2 tie.
The game’s only goal came two minutes after the restart when Bakasu capitalised on a defensive lapse in the Kotoko backline to give Wydad a valuable lead in the 47th minute.

The result hands the visitors a slender advantage ahead of the return leg in Casablanca on Friday, October 24, 2025.
Both sides started with attacking intent and tactical organisation, but Wydad seized control early in the second half after Bakasu’s composed finish. The goal lifted the Moroccan side’s tempo while forcing Kotoko to push forward in search of an equaliser.
Kotoko’s hopes took a major hit in the 49th minute when goalkeeper Camara was sent off for handling the ball outside his area—a costly error that left the Porcupine Warriors with ten men. Despite their numerical disadvantage, Kotoko battled bravely but found it difficult to penetrate Wydad’s compact defensive setup.
Wydad managed the game effectively, dictating possession and slowing down play to protect their lead. Kotoko, urged on by their home fans, created a few half-chances but couldn’t convert.
As the final whistle sounded, Wydad walked away with a vital away goal and a first-leg advantage that could prove decisive.
Kotoko will now have to regroup and deliver a spirited comeback in Casablanca to keep their Confederation Cup campaign alive.
