The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has addressed the recent announcement by Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger, declaring their intention to withdraw from the regional community.

Although no formal notification has been received by ECOWAS, the organization has asserted its commitment to finding a negotiated solution to the political challenges faced by the three member states.

The decision to exit ECOWAS was communicated by Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger on Sunday, citing concerns that the regional body had deviated from the ideals of its founding fathers and the spirit of Pan-Africanism.

The three African nations expressed their dissatisfaction with ECOWAS and its alleged departure from the principles that initially bound the community together.

In response to this announcement, ECOWAS released a communiqué, stating its dedication to working closely with Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger to restore constitutional order.

The West Africa Bloc emphasized its commitment to adhering to the directives from the Authority of Heads of State and Government in facilitating a resolution to the ongoing political impasse.

Notably, Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger are currently under military leadership, following coups that ousted civilian leaders.

ECOWAS underscored the continued importance of these three countries as integral members of the regional community and expressed its determination to address the challenges faced by the nations in their pursuit of political stability.

While ECOWAS awaits a formal notification from the three Member States regarding their withdrawal, the organization remains steadfast in its commitment to fostering diplomatic dialogue and finding a mutually agreeable solution to the prevailing issues.
