The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has praised His Royal Majesty, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, describing him as the “King Solomon of our time” for his exceptional wisdom, mediation skills and contribution to peace and national security.
Speaking at the National Police Headquarters during the historic visit of the Asantehene on Tuesday, January 6, the IGP said Otumfuo, as the revered occupant of the Golden Stool, has not only preserved cherished Asante values but has also modernised and strengthened them to meet contemporary challenges.
Mr. Yohuno commended the Asantehene for his consistent and unwavering support for the Ghana Police Service, particularly in the Ashanti Region, describing his role as both fatherly and exemplary.
He recalled that over the years, Otumfuo has hosted several Inspectors-General of Police and senior police leadership, offering wise counsel, guidance and encouragement, with his doors always open to the Service.
“As Chief Constable of this country, I must commend Your Majesty and highlight your immense role in peace building and conflict resolution, which has had a profound impact on national security,” the IGP stated.
He noted that Otumfuo’s exceptional mediation skills, which have helped restore peace in numerous conflict-prone areas across the country, set him apart as a unifying national figure.
According to Mr. Yohuno, the Asantehene’s wisdom, patience and moral authority have repeatedly brought calm where tension once prevailed and unity where division threatened national peace.
The IGP made specific reference to Otumfuo’s role as Chair of the Committee of Eminent Chiefs, which successfully resolved the long-standing Dagbon crisis, restoring peace and stability to the area.
He also acknowledged the Asantehene’s mediation efforts in Yendi and, more recently, in the protracted Bawku conflict, noting that the practical recommendations from these interventions continue to guide security operations today.
Mr. Yohuno stressed that Otumfuo Osei Tutu II’s leadership exemplifies the vital role traditional authority plays in complementing modern state institutions, particularly in maintaining peace, stability and national cohesion.
