Former Central Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Bernard Allotey Jacobs is insisting that hanging the tag of corruption on the neck of President Akufo-Addo and former President John Mahama won’t work.

According to him, one cannot tag Nana Addo as corrupt but his appointees are.

Speaking on Happy FM’s Epa Hoa Daben show with Kwame Afrifa-Mensah, Allotey Jacobs jumped to the defense of Nana Addo and Mahama. “You can’t hang the tag of corruption on the neck of Nana Addo and Mahama. Nana Addo is not corrupt same as Mahama. I know the two very well. We don’t have to politicize corruption. We cant be destroying our leaders like that.”

Allotey Jacobs was reacting to comments made by the NDC at a press conference on Tuesday.

The NDC’s press conference was against the backdrop of President Akufo-Addo’s speech delivered on Monday at the Bar Conference held in Takoradi.

While addressing the 2019 Conference of the Ghana Bar Association in the Western Region, President Nana Addo lambasted his critics who are trying to place corruption tag on the neck of his administration.

According to him, “I am aware of the orchestrated attempts by my opponents to hang the tag of corruption on the necks of my government and myself, despite all the manifest efforts being made to deal with the phenomenon of corruption.”

He has, therefore, told his critics bluntly that “I did not come into public life to enrich myself.”
