Former President John Dramani Mahama, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate in the ongoing election, has issued a strong warning to military personnel allegedly deployed to disrupt the declaration of parliamentary results in certain constituencies.

In a statement, Mahama expressed concern over reports of violent activities by “unscrupulous” military officers, accusing them of causing mayhem and interfering with the electoral process.

“My attention has been drawn to the violent activities of some unscrupulous military personnel deployed to cause mayhem and disrupt the declaration of parliamentary results in some constituencies,” he stated.

He cautioned those involved, emphasizing that they would be held personally accountable for their actions in due course. “This is to caution the personnel involved that they will be held individually liable and responsible for their actions when the table turns,” Mahama warned.

The remarks come amid heightened tensions in the ongoing election, with the Electoral Commissioner, Jean Mensa, who serves as the returning officer for the presidential election, yet to declare official results.

Mahama’s comments have sparked widespread reactions, with calls for the military and security agencies to exercise restraint and uphold professionalism. Civil society organizations and election observers have also urged all parties to respect the democratic process and maintain peace.
