Telecommunications pacesetter, Vodafone Ghana has added five more young ladies to its ‘Female Engineering Students Sponsorship Programme’ (FESSP). This is part of an initiative to empower and induct young female Engineering students from various Universities into the telecom company.
Every year, Vodafone in partnership with leading engineering institutions such as the University of Ghana, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and Ghana Technology University, give young and brilliant female engineering graduates, the opportunity to realise their dream of becoming leaders of change in their chosen areas of influence.
Speaking during the induction ceremony, Ashiokai Akrong, Director for Human Resource at Vodafone Ghana, said:
“With this empowerment, it is our expectation that today’s winners will be able to commence their careers through various internship rotation programmes in various departments in the company. This will equip them with first-hand information on how the business works in a holistic way.”
On how the induction of the girls will be carried out, the HR Director said:
“After the internship, we will give these promising ladies an opportunity to do their national service with us, which then leads to an eventual full-time employment in any Vodafone operating company, for those who are successful.”
The scholarship programme, launched in 2011, has so far sponsored over 35 beneficiaries for further studies and nurtured them to work with the Telecom Company through internship, national service and subsequent full-time employee roles. FESSP fundamentally empowers and embraces young female engineering students from various Universities in line with the company’s unfettered commitment to developing brilliant female graduates.
