Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports, Pius Enam Hadzide has intimated that the Black Bombers couldn’t get funding for their trip for their African Championship in Congo because they failed to properly account for monies they had received for a previous tournament.
Speaking on Happy FM’s Anopa Bosuo Sports, Hon. Hadzide disclosed that until a federation properly accounts for funds given them, the ministry will not give any more funds for their activities.
“The Ghana Amateur Boxing Association which is now the Ghana Boxing Federation could not account for funds which were given them and we are not going to send the signal that any federation can get up, put a budget together, submit to the ministry and get the money.” Pius Enam Hadzide told Happy FM.
He added that, there were other issues including how the Bombers were composed, what fitness regime they undertook, what health check they went through before the competition.
“Normally those things are not looked at and athletes are sent for competitions and they come back with nothing to show for it,” he added.
The Black Bombers were scheduled to travel to Congo, Brazaville this month for the 2017 Africa Boxing Championship. The competition would also serve as qualifiers for the AIBA World Championship in Hamburg, Germany in August.
